Sales Academy

Whether you’re new to insurance sales, or a seasoned veteran, you will be impressed with the successful sales system taught.  It goes beyond the basics of selling, to the principles necessary to building and running a successful business.  The Family Heritage Sales Academy will provide you with all of the tools, methods and motivation necessary for you to begin your Family Heritage career quickly and simply.  Take a few minutes to read the information provided on the following pages.  It will help you get prepared for your trip and Sales Academy.

Bring Your Travel Information

If you are driving, print the directions and map to the hotel.   If you are flying, make sure you have your ticket or e-ticket verification and airport shuttle information.

Money For Your Expenses

Your hotel lodging (plus tax), airfare and/or mileage are your responsibility and will be charged to your Representative Statement of Account.  This charge will be offset by your sales production as an additional bonus to your normal commission.  However, you will need to bring enough money to pay for your meals ($20-$30 per day) and other travel expenses.

Writing Materials

You will need to bring a pen or pencil and a note pad to write on.

A Large Enough Suitcase

You wil be given sales materials and supplies during sales academy that will need to be carried back with you.  Please be prepared for this when you are deciding which suitcase to bring!    Make sure you have room for 2 binders (each approximately 2 inches thick) and assorted supplies and materials.

Proper Attire

The dress code for the week is business casual (no jeans).  Polo shirts, khakis and Dockers are acceptable.

A trainer will meet you in the classroom at 1:00 pm on Monday. A sign will be posted in the lobby of the hotel with the name of the classroom to meet in.

Monday: 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Tuesday – Wednesday: 8:00 am – 9:00 pm
Thursday: 8:00 am – 3:00 pm

6:30 pm – 9:00 pm each evening will be class or self-study

  • Q: What is the address of the hotel where the Sales Academy will be conducted?
    • A: Wyndham Gardens Dallas North, 2645 Lyndon B Johnson FWY, Dallas, TX 75234. 972-243-3363
  • Q: If I am flying, how will I get from the airport to the hotel?
    • A: When you land, make sure to call the hotel and request shuttle service from the airport. Shuttle service is free (you may want to consider gratuity). Be sure to follow hotel directions on shuttle pick up locations as referenced in your confirmation letter.
  • Q: What time does class begin/end?
    • A: Sales Academy begins promptly Monday at 1:00pm CDT and will conclude Thursday at 3:00pm. If you are driving be sure to have route mapped and directions clear before getting underway. Please allow ample time for traffic and other possibilities.
  • Q: Will there be any charge to my credit card upon check-in?
    • A: Yes, there will be an authorization made for $25 upon check-in for incidentals.
  • Q: Will I have a roommate?
    • A: All students will have a gender appropriate roommate unless; You have pre-arranged your own room and submitted your personal credit card to the Sales Department at the home office.
  • Q: What is the appropriate attire while attending Sales Academy?
    • A: Business casual is the order of the week. Feel free to bring casual clothes for the travel days (and a possible casual day in class Thursday), but make sure to wear appropriate attire during class.
      • No jeans, T-shirts, Tennis shoes, flip-flops, baseball hats, or like clothing will be permitted.
      • You may want to bring a warm shirt or sweater as class room temperatures vary.
  • Q: What is the meal schedule/cost during Sales Academy?
    • A: Be sure to check your confirmation letter from FHL in regards to the meal schedule at each location.
  • Q: What if I have dietary restrictions or food allergies?
    • A: Be sure to notify the Sales department at FHL so accommodations can be made where possible.
  • Q: What is the tobacco-use policy during Sales Academy?
    • A: Use of tobacco products or electronic devices during class or in the hotel is prohibited. There will multiple breaks throughout the day where smoking in appropriate areas is permitted.
  • Q: Will there be breaks throughout the day?
    • A: Yes, there will be multiple 10 min. breaks throughout the day as well as an hour for both lunch/dinner
  • Q: What studying do I need to do before attending Sales Academy?
    • A: Be sure to have all three approaches memorized before coming to class.
  • Q: Will I receive any Business-to-Business training while at Sales Academy?
    • A: Yes, but the training provided will be geared primarily to the consumer market, however, the principles learned also apply effectively to the Business-to- Business market.
  • Q: What materials will I receive in class?
    • A: You will be given a sales kit with multiple tools to begin your career development (including a composition notebook) You will also be given state specific Cancer Care Plus policy and Injure Care policy kits and forms.
  • Q: When will I have access to the Sales Professional portion of the FHL website?
    • A: You will receive an email from the home office giving you an agent number and temporary pin number that will be your login information. You will also be given a temporary username and password during class to provide access to certain training tools to supplement your training.
  • Q: How do I check on the status of my insurance license?
    • A: Processing times vary by state. Check out your states Insurance Dept. website and perform “Agent Lookup” (or similar) and search your own name. Or simply call the Dept. of Insurance.
  • Q: What will be my training schedule after Sales Academy?
    • A: The best way to find the answer to this question is to discuss it with your team leader/director.
